We are delighted that members of the human and canine team from Bristol DAWG will be joining us in-centre again during 2024. They are so popular with our visitors, with people being particularly heartened when they all get 'dressed up' pre-Christmas. Dates for your diaires are:
They look forward to interacting with as many humans as possible! You'll find them on the mall between 10am and 3pm.
A bit about the charity if you don't already know them: Bristol DAWG rescue Greyhounds and Lurchers. They first opened their doors in 2009 and moved into their own Rescue Centre in January 2020. The Charity has four trustees, who are all totally dedicated to the dogs in their care whilst they are waiting for their new forever home. There is also a very loyal group of volunteers and, together, they try to help as many dogs as possible. Fundraising is, of course, vital to the success of the charity.
Bristol DAWG normally accommodates about 15 dogs at any one time (it has been as high as 25 with the use of foster families) and say: 'we are only a small Charity, but we feel we make a big difference'. They take dogs from both the UK and Ireland - where there are huge welfare problems in the racing industry, it is said 10,000 greyhounds go “missing” in Ireland every year. These are generally dogs which are not fast enough to race or are injured. They also take dogs from the local Dog Wardens in South Gloucestershire and North Somerset - these are generally strays.
They have had many sad cases of cruelty, which is always hard to deal with but they try and help as many cruelty cases as possible within their financial constraints.
